Skiing and winter in Armenia

Tsaghkadzor — the name translates roughly as "valley of flowers" — is Armenia's only developed ski resort, sitting at 1,966 m to 2,819 m in the Kotayk region 65 km northeast of Yerevan. The ski season runs reliably from December through March; the resort has 27 km of marked pistes served by two gondolas and several chairlifts, and a full day ski pass costs considerably less than comparable European resorts. It's a winter-weekend favourite for Yerevan families, which means accommodation books out on weekends — mid-week visits are quieter and cheaper. Jermuk, in Vayots Dzor province, pairs a small ski area with mineral spring spas, making it a viable option for non-skiers or mixed groups. Beyond the slopes: snowshoeing on the Aragats plateau works well in February when the snowpack is stable, and the winter light on Khor Virap with Ararat behind it is one of the best photographs in Armenia. These guides cover seasons, piste maps, gear hire, and how to combine skiing with the rest of the region.
