Armenia with children: what actually works

Travelling with children in Armenia is less complicated than the country's adventurous reputation suggests. The monasteries that anchor most itineraries are more interesting to children than any equivalent in Western Europe — Geghard's cave chambers, the ornate interiors of Etchmiadzin, and the theatrical setting of Noravank in its red-rock canyon all hold attention without requiring explanations. Lake Sevan's beaches (Noratus, Tsaghkunk) have shallow entry and calm water well suited to younger swimmers. Yell Extreme Park near Yenokavan has zip lines and rope courses calibrated for teenagers; the park's via ferrata requires no experience and runs in summer from June through September. Yerevan itself is child-friendly in the practical sense: good pavements on the main streets, a handful of parks with play equipment near the Cascade Complex, and food that rarely challenges picky eaters (the grilled meat focus means even cautious children usually find something). The Tsaghkadzor ski resort in winter works well for family ski holidays at roughly half the cost of equivalent Alpine options.
