Day trips from Yerevan that actually work

Yerevan is a workable base for the entire country, but the classic day-trip circuit covers three pairs of sites that slot neatly into a single day each without rushing. The first and most popular: Garni Temple (a remarkably intact pagan Hellenic temple from the 1st century AD) followed by Geghard Monastery (partly carved from basalt, 13th century, a UNESCO site) — 28 km and 40 km from the city respectively, logistically easy to combine.
